I came across this photo on Reddit of a Venetian boy taken in 1887 by photographer Alfred Stieglitz the other day and it’s haunted me ever since. I don’t think I can sum up what is captured in this photo any better than Reddit user inaseaS who states:
This is poverty, hunger, neglect, fear, and smouldering anger all in one photograph.
As a father of a young 8-year-old boy, myself, I am compelled to give this kid a big hug, but with a span of so many years between us I can only wonder how things turned out for this kid and hope they were good…but I fear they were not.
